What does Forklift Certification mean? Forklift certification assures that the certified operator is able to perform the forklift operation properly and safely in the workplace.OSHA Forklift certificate is issued by the employer or an authorized training provider to a forklift operator upon successful completion of a course and examination. The certification signifies that he or she is qualified to operate a forklift safely in the workplace. Such certification must meet the safety requirements of the Occupational Safety Health Administration (OSHA) standard. When you are applying for forklift operator jobs, your prospective employer may require you to hold OSHA forklift certification. OSHA Forklift certification programs prepare operators for an examination that tests their skills and abilities using a Forklift and other machinery on the site. These OSHA Forklift certificate programs prepare operators with the skills and knowledge related to safety and workplace hazards, machinery operating protocol and basic techniques for handling and manoeuvring forklifts. Why is it important? Forklifts are fairly large machines with several moving parts and considerable power. Forklifts safety training is important because drivers who operate forklifts without the proper training become immediate dangers to themselves and any other employees working in their area. When looking at the numbers, Forklifts cause around 85 fatalities a year, almost 35 thousand accidents which result in serious injury, and another 61 thousand resulting in non-serious injuries. These numbers are pulled from OSHA. Let us also remind you that is it required by OSHA that ALL operators of Forklifts be properly trained. It is the LAW. Common causes of fatal Forklift accidents: Crushed by the Forklift tipping over. Crushed between Forklift and a different surface Crushed between two Forklifts Struck or run over by a Forklift Struck by falling material from a Forklift Falling from the platform on the Forklift Studies have indicated that a majority of these accidents could have been prevented with the proper Forklift training. The proper Forklift training will reduce, or even prevent accidents from happening on the job site. It will also train operators on how to deal with the elevated loads that can possibly tip the Forklift over.
